Each month, we shine a light on a condition that may affect children in our community — because awareness is a form of compassion.
POTS is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system that can affect how the body regulates heart rate and blood flow when a person changes position — such as standing up from sitting or lying down.
Symptoms can include dizziness, fatigue, rapid heart rate, difficulty concentrating, exercise intolerance, and fainting or near-fainting. Because many of these symptoms are invisible, children with POTS may appear healthy to others even when they are struggling.
Some chronic conditions aren't immediately visible. Learning about them can help create more understanding for children and teens living with symptoms that others may not recognize.
Each article follows a consistent format researched from authoritative medical sources including the NIH, NIMH, CDC, major children's hospitals, and recognized medical organizations.
More conditions will be added over time as our library grows.
